Legex: Vishesh Sharma on Streamlining Legal Accessibility through Technology

Vishesh Sharma - Co-founder of Legex

What happens when a recent college graduate decides to tackle one of the most resistant and inefficient industries in the world? Vishesh Sharma, Co-founder and CEO of Legex, chose to do exactly that with the legal sector. By leveraging technology to automate compliance and registrations, Vishesh is proving that you don't need decades of experience to identify—and fix—deep-seated systemic problems.

Legex was born out of a frustration that began during Vishesh's second year at the Cluster Innovation Centre, University of Delhi. Coming from a family of lawyers, he had a front-row seat to the staggering inefficiencies of the legal profession. "I saw that every organization has legal aspects that consume massive amounts of time and resources," Vishesh notes. "The idea was simple: if we can use technology to streamline these processes, everyone wins—from the business to the legal professionals."

The Power of Youthful Naivety

Vishesh believes that being a young entrepreneur is both a blessing and a curse. "In a good sense, you don't have previously built iterations. You don't know what 'can't' be done, so you just do it," he says. While the lack of corporate structure was a setback, it allowed Legex to build a culture of extreme flexibility and ownership that attracted top talent from across the globe, including Boston and Hong Kong.

Iterate or Die: The Startup Reality

One of the most profound lessons Vishesh learned was the importance of market iteration. For the first six months, the Legex team sat in a room and built what they thought was a perfect product. When they finally went to market, it was rejected outright. "A guy told us, 'I'm not going to use this, and I'll tell everyone else not to use it either. You're young—go do something better with your life,'" Vishesh recalls. "It was frozen. But it was the push we needed."

That rejection led to a culture of rapid experimentation. Vishesh now advises every founder to be ready to build 10 different iterations of an idea. "You cannot innovate in isolation. You have to go out, talk to the people who will actually use the product, and be willing to change everything based on their feedback."

Solving the 400-Year Backlog

Legex isn't just about registrations and compliance. The company is tackling the massive backlog of the Indian court system with its new product, Resolve—an online dispute resolution (ODR) platform. "At the current rate, it would take 400 years to clear the pending cases in India," Vishesh explains. "Resolve allows parties to settle petty disputes online through a private court setting, saving years of their lives."

This focus on accessibility and transparency is at the heart of the Legex vision. Whether it's a startup navigating its first fundraise or an individual trying to resolve a property dispute, Vishesh wants to remove the "fear of law" and replace it with a streamlined, technology-driven experience.

Vishesh's Playbook for Aspiring Founders

  1. Start Right Away: There is never a "perfect" time. If you see a problem you are passionate about, dive in.
  2. Talk to End Users: Don't build in a vacuum. Your end user is your most honest (and sometimes brutal) teacher.
  3. Set Co-founder Expectations Early: Have the hard talks about equity and roles before the business scales. Most startups fail due to founder disputes.
  4. Focus on Ownership: Give your team the freedom to work at their own pace and the ownership to see the impact of their work.
"Law is like medicine. Everyone wants a doctor, but no one wants to go to a doctor. We want to make legal accessibility as easy and 'un-scary' as possible." — Vishesh Sharma

The Future of Legal Tech

Despite resistance from traditional legal fraternity, Vishesh sees legal tech as an inevitable evolution. Just as food and transportation have been revolutionized by apps, the legal sector is ripe for a technological overhaul. Legex is positioning itself to be the operating system for legal needs, providing a transparent and efficient alternative to the status quo.
